Agorà shadows and history in the squares of Naples
"Reconnecting one's memories, returning to distant episodes, has also involved making choices; that is, identifying a particular place, the setting of an event, real or imagined, that we thought was lost and that, suddenly, resurfaces in our memory. No choice was random; each one is linked to an important part, or even just a single day, of one's life, lost in time and which, by a strange play of memory, unexpectedly, resurfaces: a morning with a parent, the encounter with a love even if unspoken, a study or work colleague, everything is there before us as if the time that has passed had been magically erased. More often, in truth, it is the places that convey the enchantment of memories: the house of an ancestor where a happy childhood was spent, the neighborhood where one was born, the place of one's studies. In this case, each person has returned to a particular area of the city: squares and streets with centuries-old monuments and stories but also a small open space, just a fold in the urban fabric where our memory has remained entangled, held by an event that, over the years, has preserved its importance, its memory intact."
