Naples Meets the World - Mostra D'Oltremare

June 30, July 1-2 and 7-8-9, 2017

This exhibition presents a series of shots that have as their common denominator the inclusion, against a backdrop of the city of Naples, of images of contemporary artworks created by Pietro Loffredo. An intertwining of places in the city—with its characteristics, its lights and its shadows—and the well-known images of Loffredo, an artist whose leitmotif is the superstitious elements that so strongly characterize the city of Naples. Colorful, hieratic, sublime, the painted horns are inserted among the folds and wounds of a suffering city that often, between seriousness and irony, entrusts its future to a talisman. Nando Calabrese's photographic narrative lingers on this characteristic of the city of Naples, recounts and exalts it by using the works of Piero Loffredo which, in turn, attempt to frame the hope of a suffering humanity, even in the awareness that no lucky charm can replace the will of man, the true arbiter of his fate. The two authors, with their different media, tell in a direct and sometimes even excessive way the story of a city with a thousand faces. They do so without taking themselves too seriously, without salvific or sociological intentions, driven only by the desire to describe.
