An ECHO for everyone
The traveling exhibition An Echo for Everyone, promoted by the TempoLibero association and inaugurated in June 2016 at the Archaeological Museum of Naples, after several stops in Italy, on September 16, 2017 will open its doors in Miami, at the main library of the American city. The event, desired by the Italian Cultural Institute of Miami and the Dante Alighieri Society of Miami – who appreciated the Neapolitan project and wanted to host it – is part of the events promoted in conjunction with the famous contemporary art fair Art BaselMiami Beach which every year attracts contemporary art enthusiasts and collectors from all over the world to the United States of America. It is an opportunity for the participating artists, mostly from Campania, to show their work to a wide audience. As part of Art Basel Miami Beach, on December 7 an event will be held to publicize the exhibition entrusted to Oscar A. Fuentes of the Downtown Miami Library.
The exhibition An Echo for Everyone, conceived by Clorinda Irace and Tony Stefanucci, will also be presented in Miami in the setup designed by Alexandra Abbate and curated by Oscar A. Fuentes. On display are 63 bookmark sketches, measuring 10×30 cm, inspired by the life and work of Umberto Eco and created by artists and writers.
With public and critical success, the exhibition has been on display at: Naples (June 16 – August 29, 2016) at the Archaeological Museum of Naples, Pescara (November 26, 2016 – January 7, 2017) at the Vittoria Colonna Museum of Modern Art, Naples (February 1 – February 24, 2017) at the Campo del Moricino Comprehensive Institute and finally Agropoli (April 1 – 30, 2017) at the Palazzo Civico delle Arti. For each stop, other artists were invited and for 2018 a Roman edition has already been scheduled.
Clorinda Irace, creator of the exhibition, states: “A cultural event starts from Naples and its creativity, which with different artistic languages promotes not the commemoration but the re-proposal of Umberto Eco. All the people involved have loved Eco's texts and with this exhibition we hope to spread knowledge of them even among the new generations.”
On display are 63 artists and writers who have created a bookmark referring to the works, personality, and studies of Umberto Eco; in some cases, artists and writers worked together. Using different techniques, various styles, and bold imagination, the authors worked in a small format (the bookmark sketches on display measure 10×30 cm) but with the skill and care they would have devoted to a large-scale work. From sculpture to photography, from portrait to geometry, from figurative to abstract, from graphics to collage and poetic and literary notes, there are many suggestions offered by the works on display, all traceable to Eco's work, which with his work strongly marked the short century.
